TINAPAS
2012-2019: Tradition
This Is Not a Play About Sex was first created by Poppy (Christina) Liu '13 in the summer of 2012. Using a University Studies grant, Poppy conducted interviews with fellow Colgate students about their experiences relating to sex, sexuality, sexual violence, and the body. The play debuted on campus over Family Weekend in October 2012 and from then on, every fall between 2012-2019 as an annual beloved tradition. Each year, the project Directors and Leadership Team updated the script with new pieces and new experience to reflect the ever-changing social climate of the student body.

In an interview with the university, Poppy said, “I wanted to encompass all gender identities, all sexualities … my goal was to capture as many different perspectives and behaviors and attitudes as possible on campus, to have a more complete portrait of sexuality and sexual expression at Colgate." Poppy was a Theater and Women's Studies double major and was particularly inspired by the Vagina Monologues when creating TINAPAS. The project was part of her Honors Thesis for Women's Studies and advised by Professor Meika Loe.
