[monologue]

Let’s break it down: there are the people who are out, gay, and proud; there are the people you KNOW are out and gay but not too proud; then there are the people who are starting to …how should we say it, experiment.

That’s great, wherever you are in your process, you do you.

You see, on a small scale there’s a lot of support, but this place as a whole still isn’t quite ready… People still gawk if two guys make out. They tap their friends and are like It’s still kind of Discovery Channel-esque. (Whereas

twelve heterosexual couples could be playing tonsil wars and no one will even look twice, cuz that’s just a normal Thursday night.)

It was especially strugs in the beginning cuz… I want to do college too! I want to make out on the dance floor and get dragged away by my friends and leave without getting a number! I want to go out and hook up with someone like it ain’t no thang cuz

But when I went out with my friends, that’s what THEY would do and I’d be left walking back home, alone.

And so I joined groups and met other queer people but NOW the problem is I know ALL the queer people. The community is VERY small and VERY insular. It can be fun but sometimes you just don’t want to keep hooking up with your friends, you know?

Moral of the story: it’s hard to be gay and have a sex life at Colgate. So we go to Syracuse.
