[monologue]

The other day I had an inclination, a suspicion, that I might be pregnant. So I went to the drug store and bought a test.

The process to find out was rather mechanical. Oddly unemotional. I even saw a friend at the liquor store as I was walking back and I asked for a ride home. Just a normal conversation while I was holding this bag with a pregnancy test and a Milky Way in it.

I didn’t feel a rush to get back to my dorm. I didn’t count the seconds until the results showed up. I just waited.

I’ve been collecting cans from dorms to recycle and refund, and one day I noticed a pregnancy test in the trash can. As I threw my own test out, I started thinking: what will the people on my floor think? No one will even know it was me.

So I dealt with it all myself.

Now, if I had actually been pregnant… I don’t know how I would have reacted.
